Farah Amir Ayad
I am a 17-year-old artist born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. I have known in my heart since I was a little girl what I wanted to be when I grow up. It was not a stereotypical child’s dream such as a doctor or astronaut, but I had the vision of becoming a world-class artist. However, I started taking it seriously 4 year ago.
I believe what makes a capable artist is mainly practice and not talent. My work includes drawing, sketching, charcoal, and painting. Each detail in my daily routine influences my painting’s direction and style. For instance, I have been going to the beach a lot recently, and I have noticed how abstract ocean waves can be. I then used that in the direction of my recent painting series. I observed some of the waves' abstract shapes, live-sketched them on my sketchbook, and made a color palette that is as abstract with similar contrast.
I am mostly inspired by nature as well as human emotions and how faces can express different feelings. As nature may be different in every country, so does the culture. Each country has its own culture and human characteristics, so I think the art of one country should be as unique as its culture. It is always interesting to know more about other cultures and get involved and enhanced by their art as this is what keeps us always inspired.
Back in 2017, I was the youngest to participate in a local art gallery. I had a couple of solo exhibitions with 19 pieces of art and two live speed painting performances at my scout annual party and at my school Christmas party. In 2018, I participated in my school’s annual art gallery with two artworks and four live speed painting performances; three of them were for graduation ceremonies and one in TedxNIS. In 2019, I participated in 2 group exhibitions. The first one was in DAVINCI Egypt’s 7th Exhibition with three art pieces, and the second one was held in the Cairo Opera House, Hanager Arts Centre, with five art pieces.
